San Antonio Cowboy Breakfast Rodeo Kickoff Was Disappointing

Posted on January 25, 2025 by utsadeli

Each year, I descend to the Cowboy Breakfast to enjoy some amazing tacos and coffee. I also like to sit down at a random table and talk to people. This is a good way to hang out while eating breakfast and getting ready for the rodeo. This year, though, The Cowboy Breakfast was disappointing.

Why was it disappointing? Here is what I experienced while being there for 10 minutes. Yes, 10 minutes, because the vibe was wayyyy off.

First, I should have noticed cars leaving in abundance and no line to enter the parking lot. I’m used to seeing long lines to park my car in the mornings yet this time there wasn’t.

Second, NO LINES FOR TACOS. There are usually long lines to get tacos and they would go fast though. This year, I was able to go to the 4 spots they had for tacos with ease.

Third, only 4 types of tacos. There was only sausage wrap, bacon and egg, chorizo and egg, and bean and cheese. NO biscuits, no menudo, no barbacoa, no potato and egg, that was it. Food was undercooked, the beans were burned and sausage wrap gave me the runs.

Lastly, the volunteers, not all of them, but most were rude. I was told, “You should only get one taco instead of two” or “You here again to eat another taco”. I felt belittled in that spot, I am a big guy and having that conversation with them over free tacos on a Friday morning was saddening. I then watch them say that same thing to other individuals including an older lady who said she was here because she was hungry.

This is the experience I had during Cowboy Breakfast and most likely won’t be back again.
